Independent Political Strategists and other Nonsense Titles

March 31, 2008

james-carville-gollumThis election year has been marked with a few significant technological milestones. For example, Obama’s wingnut preacher and Hillary’s sniper stories both spread virally via YouTube. In addition, all candidates have done their best to harness the power of social networking sites (Facebook, MySpace, Digg etc.) to build their political movements and raise money. These technological breakthroughs cost next to nothing (a pc and an internet connection) but can be more powerful than 100 paid campaign commercials broadcast on television. With these advances you’d think that campaigns and political parties would be relying a bit less on people. No so. In fact, every time I turn around I see another new “talking head” on television. Can Politicians Fool Mother Nature?

March 28, 2008

sun-solar-flaresYes, there’s a presidential election going on, but let’s not lose focus – the world is still revolving in spite of Rev. Wright and not ducking bullets in Bosnia.

While most everyone has been ignoring global warming (or not), it’s been happening (or not)! When I first saw this quote on March 12, it made me pause: Read more

Hollywood Experts

Sean Penn is Not a Political Expert

When they’re not busy publicly acknowledging each other’s achievements with more fanfare than Kim Jong-il, some Hollywood celebrities are busy telling the rest of us how we should think and vote. And why shouldn’t they? They’re really on top of things, right? Actually, they’re not. In fact, they are more out of touch with reality than the aristocracy that makes up the U.S. Congress.

Let’s look at recent comments by Sean Penn. And no, I will not preface my comments by saying how great of an actor he is. That’s like the obligatory “but I have black friends” comment before criticizing blacks. He’s an ass in every sense of the word. The fact that he reads scripts, written by others, really well does not negate his stupidity or presumptuousness. Read more

Governor Bill Richardson Endorses Barack Obama

March 26, 2008

barack-obama-bill-richardson.jpgBarack Obama received another important endorsement last week from Governor Bill Richardson. Although most Obama supporters would have preferred it a bit earlier in the race, it is still very significant. Regardless of the fact that he leads Clinton in pledged delegates, number of states, and the popular vote, Obama still needs the super-delegates to win the nomination. Richardson, in addition to his influence over Latino voters, holds considerable sway within those ranks. Read more

The Key to Making Money Without Working. If Congress can do it, so can you!

March 24, 2008

moneykey.jpgIn our continuing coverage of America’s ruling class (aka Congress), we now offer this short video from “Uncle Jay Explains the News”. Neither the COS nor I know Uncle Jay, but this video was sent to us by a friend and we knew immediately that our readers would like it.

We all know how overpaid and pampered our elected federal officials are, but have you ever seen how little they actually work? Strap yourself in for the next 4 minutes and watch this video. Then close your eyes and imagine how nice it must be to have a job with great money/benefits that requires such little actual work. Read more

Three Ways a Political Candidate can Improve Their Chances of Winning an Election (Part III or III)

March 21, 2008

debating.jpgWith all the pollsters and advisors gone, who is left? The candidates!!!

Thomas “Tip” O’Neill, longtime Speaker of the House in the U.S. Congress, once declared, “All politics is local.” What if one local candidate said, without equivocation, that he would fix potholes while his opponent said that he voted against fixing them in the last budget allocation, but voted for fixing them before voting against them? Who might win? Read more

Three Ways a Political Candidate can Improve Their Chances of Winning an Election (Part II of III)

March 20, 2008

ali-hasan-al-majid-al-tikritiWhile the candidates are in the process of firing their pollsters, they should sweep the place clean and rid the campaign of the people who hired the pollsters: the advisors!

I say again, “Wouldn’t it be refreshing (and represent real change!) if we could just hear the candidates say what they believe in and what they would do without prompting from outside sources?” Isn’t there something frightening about a presidential candidate who doesn’t know what to think until told by an “advisor?” Read more

Three Ways a Political Candidate can Improve Their Chances of Winning an Election (Part I of III)

March 19, 2008

polling-for-dummies

Here are THREE surefire ways that any candidate could improve their chances of winning in November.

Wouldn’t it be refreshing (and represent real change!) if we could just hear the candidates say what they believe in and what they would do without prompting from outside sources? What should make that strategy even more appealing is that advice from outside sources is more often than not proven WRONG! Read more

Hillary Clinton’s Legacy. Who will she be? (Part II of II)

March 18, 2008

tricky-dickYes, there she is – Hillary in Dick’s clothing. The mother-of-all-crooks. In yesterday’s post we discussed why presidential candidates try to create an image of their “future legacy”. Today, we will explore Hillary’s.

This doesn’t have to be a long post. It’s fairly self-explanatory if you know the Clintons and you have a vague recollection of the mother-of-all “-gates.” Yes, Watergate beget Travel-gate, and Monica-gate, and…well…it wouldn’t be a brief post if I kept going. Read more
