Elliot Spitzer is an Ass!

March 13, 2008

elliot-spitzer-wife1.jpgOnce again a politician has let down his constituency by revealing himself to be little more than a sniveling, hypocritical ass. I am referring of course to Elliot Spitzer, soon-to-be ex-governor of New York. After a decade-long, holier-than-thou crusade against all things “immoral”, he’s now implicated as a long-term client of a prostitution ring.

Spitzer is an ass. We know this. We also know that he will not be the last arrogant politician to go down, excuse the expression, in some kinky sex scandal. But now people are finally starting to talk about the wives of these guys. Why do they stay? Why do they play the role of supportive spouse instead of smacking their cheating, good for nothing, prostitute visiting husbands over the head with a frying pan? What would you do? Vote in today’s poll to voice your opinion.

What should politician's wives do when their cheating husbands are exposed in sex scandals?

For the past year, I have had to endure my mothers rants on Hilary. “Oh Hilary this, Oh Hilary that, Hilary , Hilary, Hilary.” Which amazed me, that my mother would have ever sympathized with her at all. The reason I was amazed is because my mom is a strong, independent woman who on more that one occasion (especially when watching “Fatal Attraction” or some other movie where the man commits adultery), have heard her say to my father ” If you ever cheat on me… If you ever.. don´t think I´ll stick around.” So why would my mother respect a woman that “stood by her man”? I have no clue.

As a voter, not as woman, i would never vote for Hilary. I have no respect for a woman that not only ” stood by her man” in the midst of a public sex scandal, but she helped cover all the others up. And i can only come up with 2 logical answers as to why she did what she did:
    a. she´s in love
    b. it was convenient
I prefer to go option b.
No matter how much I like Bill Clinton, i would have kicked his ass out, thrown his clothes out of the window and onto the White House lawn and changed the White House locks!!!

    I’m with you.

And although I understand the arguments about forgiveness etc., I don’t think they apply when it comes to serial offenders. Spitzer has been doing this for years and had an elaborate way of hiding it which not only betrayed his family but broke multiple laws that he was sworn to uphold. Bill Clinton’s skirt-chasing is well-known too. You forgive people who make mistakes in the heat of passion (maybe…maybe), but you don’t ever forgive someone who systematically makes a fool of you and embarrasses his own children.

I don’t care if it’s for reasons that benefit you - you just don’t stay.

And wouldn’t it benefit you to show that you are a strong, independent person? I’d more willingly follow someone like that than someone who stays with a cheater..

I’m with you, Kenza. These wives look more like doormats than strong, independent women. Each time it happens, true feminism takes a giant step backwards.
