TheCandidacy.com Mailbox

mailbox.jpgThis is a public mailbox not too far from where I live in Santo Domingo. It sits just outside of the Plaza de la Cultura (Cultural Plaza) which hosts the Dominican Republic’s major museums and National Theatre. Needless to say, people don’t use the public mail system. Just last week I received a “priority airmail” letter from the U.S. that reached the country in one day and then took 35 more days to find its way to my house. Luckily, here at TheCandidacy.com, we use a much more sophisticated system. It’s called email and we get a lot more of them than you might think.

In fact, it’s time to start answering some of your questions and responding to your criticism and comments. Beginning next week I will do just that. If you have questions, concerns, gripes, complaints, suggestions or anything else, click on the contact us link above. We answer most emails and comments, but only the most thought-provoking will be featured – whether you agree with us or not.

I don’t see any stamps on that mail. Perhaps that’s why it takes 35 days to deliver.

Services in D.R are really bad, and un-trustworthy.

Huh. I’m amazed there are mailboxes at all. Everyday we learn something new…

For what it’s worth, a friend of mine sent me a goodwill package from Boston, and it only took a week to be delivered.

I received a call from the post office asking me directions to my house, and the guy showed up with my package about an hour later. It hadn’t been opened either, like packages are when they are sent through private mail services.

I still wouldn’t recommend using the postal service here, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Ridiculous, but to put a positive word in, I’ve gotten two packages from the DR post! Still - that’s not something we should all be amazed about.

*We shouldn’t have to be amazed when a system works here..
